the evil plot bunny
Mar. 28th, 2006 04:07 amThe room was rather plain except for the massive array of plastic and electronic bits and crystal in one corner. The walls were no longer white having turned a dirty beige with odd patches of grey. There was not much furniture either. Only a couch overflowing with papers and boxes, and the dining table supporting the hardware along with the orthopaedic chair.
On the chair sat a thin, unwashed figure who was strapped into the hardware. A frown marred the pale forehead as Mike's virtual self started flipping through the multiple holograms of articles on economics and political essays. Bored with it, she switched to a quick game of UltraSudoku while her virtual hand flicked the holograms towards the appropriate directions from her platform.
'It's so hard to find a gripping essay nowadays. Anything that seems to be coming my way is nothing more than regurgitated crap.' she thought in dismay and annoyance especially when she realised that she had played this UltraSudoku once before. And completed it.
Mike dismissed the game with a flick of her fingers before turning to the flowing river of holograms around her solemn black platform. "Saa, saa!" she cheered as she reached downwards. "What little fishy shall come into my net now?"
A thin arm shot up and pulled off the NetShadez as Mike froze. She could feel something out of place in her cramped and filthy apartment. 'Aw, crap. Not again.' she groaned inwardly. Mike could feel it. Feel Them. Their Presence.
Mentally waving away the niggling alarm bell in her head, she grasped a spritz bottle and sprayed repeatedly at the Its direction until she was sure It was gone. Which was about 5 minutes later and an empty spritz bottle of Holy Water.
Mike rubbed her face with one hand, blinking unseeing eyes. She chucked the bottle to one side after determining of its uselessness with some judicial shaking. Mike wished she dared to go out and fix the Outer Wards that was broken by some playing kids. But it was rather hard to do so when she had a friend put it up for her instead. "Not to mention I'm blind." she muttered bitterly.
'What a way to keep the day going.'
