Yay for the maudlinness of hormones
Jul. 6th, 2007 01:00 amI suppose it's been quite a while since I've let loose a sizeable entry but at the moment I'm so ridiculously maudlin I'm not sure if I want to inflict it on someone else. Bugger that and all my hormones.
All I wanted was a day off without the parents. Instead, I get woken up at 9 bleedin' AM to what sounded a plane had dropped a shipment of ping pong balls onto my rooftop (repeatedly!) and they were bouncing all over the goddamned place, especially over my bedroom.
Turns out father dear decided to do something about the nest of baby rats in the rafters and chucked a whole package of mothballs up onto the roof. For about 10 minutes long. Now, I live in the tropics and imagine if you will. It gets up to 25 degrees on a non cloudy at 8am, so let's just say I was terribly awake at 10am and choking on mothball fumes. The heat was certainly not helping because it sure as Hell was not a cloudy day.
So, after the whole afternoon of opened windows and all the fans running on max....the house still stinks somewhat of mothballs....my room the worst.....no matter that I opened the door and the windows and maxed out my fan. It still stinks...although not as bad as this morning. Or afternoon.
But goddammit...it reminds me of the time we went to Sandakan to attend a cousin's wedding and I had to share a room with an old aunt and the room had not been aired out so the mothball smell was horrendously powerful. I did not sleep, thank you very much.
I've had all kinds of fumes in my lungs (including bad perfume and burning tyres) but I detest mothballs the most.
I feel miserable right now. I've yet to have an off day when and where I can relax and do all kinds of silly things and chatter to myself just for the fun of it. Why do I have to listen to my parents squabbling over their ailling cars and upcoming trips and work and their problems and each others put downs? As soon as I step out of the room, I get targeted or whined at. Yes, whined at. I am not your personal Agony Aunt!
At least I managed to squeeze in a good shower. Complete with new handphone blaring loud music, a quick facial and hot hot sun warmed water combined with our old, old, halfway dead heater that says 45 degrees that feels like 25 instead. Pity I couldn't have the pressure. Ah, well.
The fumes are drying my eyes faster and my lips are tingling a bit....this sucks....I'd rather sleep with my bedroom stinking of sweatsocks (which I have incidentally...urk) than those goddamned mothballs. Detestable. Painful. Stinking. Harsh. Fumes.
Food hasn't been all that good for the 2 days I've had off. Breakfast was fine but 2 days of cheese and garlic toast is starting to get weary. At least they fed you at work....although quality isn't necessarily guaranteed as per canteen stereotype. Despite the fact that this is 5 star hotel....Damn....I can't wait for the Western menu to come around. And they've stopped serving the danish glazed pastries as well....probably Bruno's doing...grr...
But anyways, lunch was so so because most of the time, I can't be bothered to cook up a big lunch for myself unless I'm in the mood. And dinner was unfortunately...well....mother rules the kitchen.....although the rat incident a few days ago notwithstanding.....
And damn, I'm hungry again...and I'm trying to lose weight but I have shit motivation to get up an run around the house....being stuck in the back office manning the telephone console all day ain't fun neither although it can get terribly insane like say...oh, a coworker disappears for an hour and the 2 of us are starting to flail and swear when we have other tasks than just answering and directing calls. It's tiring work but it keeps me on my toes...not literally...
Workplace has definitely been interesting. All the chatter, the drama, the tension, the dollar signs floating over heads, the swearing, the laughter, the jokes, the muttered curses, the kowtowing to the execs......oi.....never shall it be said that the hotel industry isn't boring...except for low occupancy.....currently it's high aka full house...so more things are getting broken and we have more complaining guests and insanities lined up....of course, this means the service share is going up barring more construction and renovation...*wince*
Oh, and my lower back is complaining again....joy....what else can I whine about? *shoots herself with sarcasm* now, where did I put that Salonpas?
*wanders off*
