saving graces
Mar. 25th, 2005 11:54 pmreading thru a book called Nothing Feels Good; Punk Rock, Teenagers and Emo for my research essay, I skipped to the backpages where I found an excerpt where the author had chatted with someone who reminded me of myself when I was in my teens.......granted, my life isn't as bad as hers, but I was horrendously confused and alienated in my own skin, depression was a constant, and I actually spent several months feeling numb inside, that frozen block of ice that was my soul. I nearly killed myself once(if u've bothered to read my earlier entries).....
but Internet and music was my saving graces.....I once spent my classes in withdrawal because I was so addicted to the Internet...it was my drug, my escape, my travel destination to places that I could only dream of instead of having to live in indoctrinated Malaysia and my dull reality....and music....oh, but music!!!! It let me know that I wasn't alone! I wasn't the only one feeling confused, angry, enraged, rebellious, changing, isolated! It let me know that it was alright to run and escape sometimes, that things don't always have to be right! Admittedly, I'm not a really hardcore music kinda person, the most I would go for back then was Linkin Park(which some ppl detest, saying that they were too mainstream, but hey, ur trash, my treasure) but the lyrics! oh yes, a saving grace indeed.....sometimes, it's all in the words, not just the melodies.....but the best song would incorporate the words n melody flawlessly....definitely....
